Version 4.0 preview

So, some time went by and most of my tests during my exam period went okay so I'm a happy camper in that regard.

Obviously you can't study for exams without some good old procrastination from time to time. Thus progress was made on Media Catalog version 4.0.

I've fixed tons of little nasty bugs and also the usability was greatly improved. Just the regular little tweaks. I did add a toolbar button for performing an 'Advanced Search' because I got a lot of requests for it.

As I feel that version 4.0 is nearing completion and all that really needs to be done is updating the website. I'm contemplating adding a screencast so that the use of the application becomes more clear, but I'm not entirely sure on that.

For now, you can download version 4.0 (rev 533) here so you can have a look at what's new and how you like it.

Version 4.0: QuickLook and more

Hi All,

Just decided to give you guys a little preview of what's in store for Media Catalog version 4.0. Development has been going smoothly lately, so I've been able to get quite some work done.

The main focus point of the 4.0 release is to put in a lot of the features you guys have asked me for. So what's new then?

QuickLook support
If you're on Mac OS X 10.5 (or higher) you can use QuickLook to view any items that are accessible to Media Catalog. There's a nifty new button at the bottom of Media Catalog's window with the QuickLook-eye in it that helps you preview your files.

I've created a little video to demonstrate how this works. Link to Video

Drag support
Ok, this one has been due for a long, long time and I'm quite ashamed that it took me this long to put in.
So here's how it works; Once you've found the file you need, and it's accessible to your computer at that time, Media Catalog allows you to drag it using two types of operations.
First; Drag it to your desktop or anywhere else on your Mac to have it copied there.
Second; Drag it atop the icon of your application of choice to have that application open that file instantly.

Easy, it just made sense and had to be there, so it is.

Speed increase
I got lots of emails from people complaining me that it took them too long to catalog new volumes so I had that procedure reworked. My measurements show that the new implementation is up to 770% faster than the old one, amazing.

Usual bugkilling
A lot of bugs got squashed in the 4.0 version which should make life easier for everyone.

Ok, so that's it for now, I'll get back to you as soon as there's anything else worthy of knowing.

Robert
